ok three options:

expensive: go get a body wave perm. yes they can do this now, no you will not look like a poodle, yes your hair will still be soft, and unless you hair is bleached there should be no damage. It will however be permanent and perfectly curly or wavy depending on your request and how good your communication is with your stylist. after getting it done invest in a diffuser and good product.

Cheaper but time consuming: Depending on the length of your hair wrap nightly slightly damp hair (NOT wet, think more dry hair thats been lightly sprayed with a water bottle) in rag curlers (not sponge!) . you may want to use spray gel. in the morning unroll hair and finger comb, unless the curls/waves are too tight. in that case mist with a little salt water spritz (like bumble and bumble surf spray) and scrunch until the texture is the way you want it.

Cheaper and less time consuming and you can do on short notice: wash and dry hair. rub a mixture of shine serum and hair gel throughout and blow dry. Once hair is dry divide into four sections, and use a three-barrel waving iron, the way one might with a hair crimper. spray with hair spray. the results will be loose pretty waves and good texture. a little mermaid like but very pretty.

ok this is what i do and it works really good after u take a shower put your damp hair into braids and let dry overnight or whenever the take the braids out after your hair is dry and apply scrunching hair stuff to it for volume i suggest VO-5 it works the best

Do not comb your hair after shower. Put silicone products in your hair while it's still wet. You can finger comb a little if you want. But too much combing will make your hair frizzy. I think we have similar hair type. I used to hate my wavy hair because it didn't have enough curliness to it and didn't have as much shine as straight hair. I'm now fairly happy with my hair texture. There are also wave enhancing hair products out there. Use them, and stay away from the hair brush.
