Yep, get a diffuser, and probably a good cut too. Layered hair is going to "poof". That's what layering is all about, adding volume.

Find a good stylist who knows how to cut wavy/curly hair. Don't let her/him use a razor; this will cause more frizz.

Through the years, I have finally learned how to deal with my long naturally spiral curls. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR HAIR WHEN IT'S DRYING. It will cause frizz.

I learned the hard way because the rest of family has straight hair, and they still don't have a clue about how to care for curly hair (I'm not adopted either), so I'm going to give you step by step instructions to make it easy for you until you get to the salon.

1. Go as long as you can without washing your hair.

2. Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner. I use

Aveda. Pricey I know, but well worth it, and guess what?

If you wash your hair only twice a week, it's less dry and

frizzy, and those expensive hair care products will last you

about 5 months. So, do the math. Using the cheap stuff

everyday costs more per month than using the expensive

stuff 3 times a week.

3. Next, wash your hair and rinse. Blot excess water from hair

with a towel, apply conditioner, leave while you shave your

legs, or whatever you do in the shower., then rinse.

4. Do NOT wrap your hair up in a towel; just blot out the extra water.

5. Section off the hair and apply a gel or lotion for curly hair,

and comb it through sections of hair until you think each

hair is coated.

6. Then, take strands of hair (about 1/2 inch wide and twist

toward your face b/c that's the direction naturally curly hair grows.

7. Do not touch your hair while it's wet. Try to let it dry naturally, or use the diffuser when it's half way dry.

Now you know why I do my hair only 2-3 times a week LOL.

I hope this helps. Now I need to run and buy stock in Aveda.

Not exactly! I'm a hairstylist and I got a diffuser for my pro dryer, and The darn thing pops off every 5 seconds! So I would get one that either comes with one or try one on your dryer if possible. You may even need more layers on the very top of your hair. But diffusers work well. You may also spruce up your curls with a curling iron in those places that lay flat. Trust me, it's no sweat!

I have the same problem. First, go to a good stylist and have them thin out your layers with a scissors if you have thick hair as well. Less volume on the bottom will make the top look like it has more volume. A good cut will also take the frizz down since most of the time frizz equals split ends.

A diffuser is nice because it will focus the hot air onto sections of your hair and not a larger area, especially if you want to straighten your hair. Blow dryers will come with a diffuser when you buy them. One diffuser may not fit onto other dryers.
